General Questions
Scouting Robotics is a hands-on STEM program where students work together to design, build, program, and compete with robots while developing leadership and technical skills.
Students of varying experience levels are welcome. No prior robotics, engineering, or programming experience is required.

No. Students learn through mentorship, teamwork, and guided instruction.
Not at all. Robotics teams need students with many talents including leadership, graphic design, marketing, photography and video, writing, fundraising, public speaking, and organization. There is a place for many different interests and skill sets.
Participation & Time Commitment
Time commitments vary depending on the season, projects, and competitions. Students should expect regular meetings and occasional extended build or competition days.

Tech Crests™ Questions
Tech Crests™ are structured skill certifications that help students build and demonstrate proficiency in robotics-related skills.
No. They are competency-based learning experiences focused on skill development rather than grades.
Most Tech Crests™ are designed around approximately five hours of work and instruction, though actual completion time varies by student and topic.
Students complete the requirements that were published when they started the Tech Crest™. An earned Tech Crest™ will not be retroactively invalidated if the requirements change after completion.
An approved trainer verifies that the student has demonstrated basic proficiency in all required skills and submits the official Tech Crest™ Completion Form.
Safety & Supervision
Yes. Students work under the guidance of approved coaches, mentors, and trainers at all times.
Yes. Proper safety procedures and responsible tool usage are emphasized throughout the program, including in dedicated safety requirements within many Tech Crests™.

Competitions & Events
Many robotics teams participate in competitions, showcases, outreach events, and demonstrations throughout the year.

Parent Involvement
Yes. Parent volunteers are often essential to team success. Parents may help with transportation, event support, fundraising, meals and hospitality, photography and media, technical mentoring, and administration and organization.
No. Many volunteer roles do not require technical knowledge. Your time, enthusiasm, and support are what matter most.
