Ask your coach to help you identify an eligible trainer for this Tech Crest™, then ask that person to be your trainer. Remember that trainers are generally volunteers and should only say yes if they have availability to follow through.
Meet with your trainer to discuss your plan of work and receive guidance. It's important to agree on a timeline and set expectations for what support you will need.
Complete Tech Crest™ requirements and check them off to mark your progress. Some requirements can be completed independently; while you will need support from your trainer for others. You take the initiative and manage the pacing. Check in periodically with your trainer as you work.
When you believe you have satisfied all the requirements, schedule a meeting with your trainer to finish the Tech Crest™. They will verify whether you have met the requirements. If you have, they will submit the Tech Crest™ Completion Form on your behalf — typically in your presence at the completion meeting. If they determine that you have not yet finished, they will explain what you need to do to finish up and you return to step 4. Be sure to thank your trainer for their time and expertise.
The goal is learning, not earning. We hold ourselves to a high standard when completing Tech Crest™ requirements. We know that the skills and expertise we gain are the real achievement and the Tech Crest™ is only the recognition. By insisting on excellence, we increase the value of these Tech Crests™ for everyone.
The goal of Tech Crests™ is for you to build skills and knowledge relevant to your work on your robotics team. When you have earned a particular Tech Crest™, you should be prepared to apply the skills and knowledge from that Tech Crest™ to your work on the team.
These Tech Crests™ may be updated. A student who completes the requirements as they are written at the time that they begin work on the Tech Crest™ will be considered to have completed the Tech Crest™ even if the requirements change while they work. An earned Tech Crest™ will not be retroactively invalidated if the requirements change after completion.
